Statewide Educational Technology Services
Gary Quiring Educational Consultant(SETS)
The California Learning Resource Network (CLRN) provides an online, one-stop information source that enables California educators to identify supplemental electronic learning resources that both meet local instructional needs and embody the implementation of California curriculum frameworks and standards.
To provide this valuable service, CLRN operates under the following goals:
• Conducting a review of electronic learning resources (including software, online resources, and video) for alignment with the state board-adopted content standards. The State Board of Education approved the review criteria used in this process.
• Developing and maintaining a Web-based presence that includes the results of the resource evaluation and links to other resources.
• Developing and maintaining a Web Information Link (WIL) database, which is a collection of free primary source, secondary source and reference Web sites that are accessible through a standards-based browse or search function.
The Technology Information Center for Administrative Leadership (TICAL) helps administrators find technology resources to assist in the day-to-day needs of their jobs, whether they are site level principals or district superintendents. These resources have been collected and organized by a cadre of technology-savvy, practicing administrators and met criteria judged to be of value to other administrators. To accomplish this goal, TICAL provides the following services:
• Providing professional development focused on digital school leadership for education administrators in the areas of data-driven decision making, integrating technology into standards-based curriculum, technology planning, professional development needs of staff, financial planning for technology, and operations and maintenance. Professional development is conducted through a series of workshops provided by TICAL cadre members throughout the state, as well as through online presentations and discussion groups on the project's
Web site.
• Maintaining a Web portal featuring hundreds of resources that have been reviewed and recommended by practicing administrators to assist with digital school leadership. The portal is frequently augmented with current content that provides just-in-time assistance for administrators.
• Organizing and linking resources to specific areas of interest, such as the Technology Standards for School Administrators (as adopted by the International Society for Technology in Education) and the AB 75 Principal Training Program.
• Presenting information about TICAL at stakeholder organizations and groups.
• Contributing informational articles that promote digital school leadership to professional publications.
• Collecting, analyzing and using quantitative and qualitative data that may be used to modify the project, as necessary, to meet constituents' needs.
The Technical Support for Education Technology in Schools (TechSETS) is focused on providing technical professionals in California schools improved access to training, support and other resources. With the explosive growth in school technology, the need for well-trained technical support staff has been steadily on the rise. To provide this valuable service, TechSETS operates under the following goals:
• Identify technology skills needed, along with appropriate professional development, arrayed in a user-friendly matrix.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify cost-effective sources of training aligned to the matrix of skills.
• Provide resources and support for California school technologists through an
online interactive help desk.
• Provide assistance for planning and installing technology infrastructures.
